From
the first people that settled in the area, Niles has been an industrial
town (see "Community" page). Starting first with a sawmill and
a gristmill, then quickly moving into a growing and thriving iron town.
This eventually evolved into a steel industry that has brought Niles through
to present day. Although it has had its hard times, the City of Niles
has pulled through and continues to have a significant impact on the area's
economy. The Niles industrial area is characterized by excellent transportation, quality educational institutions, diversified extensive industries, and extensive recreational facilities. The Niles area has been successfully developing a wide industrial base ranging from heavy to light industries. Clean land is readily available along with existing facilities to accommodate every industrial requirement. Current Notable Industries: Dinesol Plastics, Inc., General Electric, Warren Screw Machine. Current Notable Banking/Finance Institutions: Bank One, Cortland Bank, Farmers National Bank, First Choice Community Credit Union, Home Federal and Loan of Niles, National City Bank, Second National Bank. AFFORDABLE UTILITIES: Companies located in the City of Niles Benefit from some of the lowest water and electric rates in the country.
