The Niles City Council meets the first and third Wednesday of every month (except in August, when it meets only on the third Wednesday) at 6:00 PM at the Safety-Service Complex, 15 E. State St. in Niles. The meetings are open to the public.

The responsibilities of the City Council include are conducting council meetings to introduce and vote on legislation that pertains to City matters, and conduct committee meetings to research and organize information to be introduced at council meetings. They also answer questions and act as a liason between their constituents and the Administration. City council positions are elected positions and have two year terms. To be able to run for a City Council position, one must live in the City of Niles, and in the Ward for which they are seeking office.
