Department Responsibilities: The responsibility of Engineering Department is to oversee all building plans throughout the city. Through the process of planning improvements within the city – be it by planning for public improvements, roads, bridges, or sewage systems, or planning to make improvements to existing ones – the engineering department’s main goals are to ensure the safety of the citizens of the city, improve the efficiency of city operations, and increase the aesthetics and/or quality of life for its citizens. At the same time, the department must propose a budget for these improvements, have the budget approved, and complete planned improvements within this budget. All of these improvements must be done within the city’s ordinances and codes.
